In 1998 at the height of the world's fascination with JennyCam, the television shows Big Brother and the invention of Life casting...
I decided I would set up my own webcam.
Initially just being shown in my office where viewers could watch me work answer the phone etc.
Within a year or so the camera moved to my house and showed my living room at that point OrmanCam™ began to actually get a following.
I would stage special events such as the “Virtual House Party”.
I would broadcast not only the video but the audio I allowed web users to actually select the music or music video that would be playing at the time.
With the birth of my son and moving from our stylish but small apartment OrmanCam™ ceased being a live broadcast and was replaced with infrequent YouTube uploads.
OrmanCam™ took on another added dimension when web cam followers started showing up at my Beacon Hill apartment to do guest shots.
Literally there would be a knock at the door and someone I had never met but someone who knew intimate details about my life would show up and start discussing those details.
Some of them have now become very close friends not least of which is:
■Doug Brendel formerly of Arizona and now actually lives in Massachusetts and officiated at my son's christening.
■Corrina Owens a Renaissance woman in every definition of the word.
■Craig Kelly and Sandra Brooks who help me test many of the interactive features, sent a baby gift for my then unborn son, and drove several hours from the North Country to central London so that we could have dinner and actually meet face-to-face during one of my recent trips.
■The “Irish Emo”
■Saiska
Using the new technology available thru tablets and cell phones and actually having something interesting to show and/or say I decided to return LIVE to the web.
OrmanCam™ returned mostly live to the Internet on June 3, 2011 coinciding with our annual extended European vacation..
I am still working on more interactive capabilities such as turning on and off the lights, picking what movies we watched that night, and even giving the dog treats will be returning shortly.
You are invited to take part in this Life cast, make suggestions, and try out the interactive features.
Who knows you may become an OrmanCam™ regular!
Meeting fun, interesting and “genuine” good people is worth the hours I spend working on the code and the special projects.
Welcome to OrmanCam™
